Race 6: Royal Ida has best recent speed from 2nd
in Sandown Stakes before going for a brief let up. A series
of strong efforts preceded his last start failure when
drawn the rails down the Flemington straight track. This
trip suits better. Hard to beat. Shadoways
has 2nd best recent speed performance. Runs well in Group
sprints over short courses but has been found wanting in
the past over this extra trip. Just lacks the zip to
succeed over the shorter trip & really needs to step up
to this trip (now) for success. Likely to be good value for
a horse who is always a top fancy in feature sprints.
Great Is Great has 3rd best recent speed.
Going very well before he failed like Royal Ida down
Flemington straight from an inside draw. At his peak this
is ideal. His aggregated speedfigures suggest he has a
great winning chance. Would be looking to include him into
betting considerations also.
Race 7: Grand Duels has best recent speed
after his emphatic win over 1000m down the straight track
last start. Always promised to be a very accomplished
performer & last start indicates that he may well have
arrived. Drawn another good barrier to get good galloping
room out wide & he will prove hard to hold out.
La Chasseuse has 2nd best recent speed
from a consistent series of speed performances. Her only
recent failure was last start & she was a sitting shot
& still not beaten by a big margin. Very talented. Big
danger.
Race 8: Soreadyforspring has best recent
speed performance. Going very well before last start
failure when ridden forward to hold a position & did
not run on in straight. Drawn the rails again, but over the
extra trip (1600m) he will be allowed to find his feet
& there should be ample time to get clear running. Very
hard to beat. King Johannes has 2nd best
recent speed. At his best over slightly longer but after
the claim he gets in well on the weights & is at his
speed peak. A danger. Laura’s
Charm scratched has 4th best recent speed but
aggregated with her speed profile (best for this race) she
has strong speed credentials. Gets in with a luxury weight
& drawn ideally. Likely to sit right up on the speed
with no real pacemakers engaged & take catching. Must

start over a shorter trip. At his best at the 2000m trip
and he looks to be the big danger.
Race 4: Cocinero has
produced a series of strong speed performances this
campaign. Very good over the 1300m trip at Hillside when he
came home strongly from well back & subsequently won
the Christmas Stakes. Racing at his career best & no
reason why he won’t produce another big speed performance.
Itsamonty has 2nd best recent speed &
this 1400m trip is his favourite. Huge run from terrible
barrier last start. Racing at his speed peak. Big danger.
Race 5: Let Go Thommo has best recent
speed & speed profile. He is a genuine WFA performer
who looks well suited. Message Bank has
2nd best recent speed & a fitness edge over most of his
rivals. Can surprise.
Race 6: Soreadyforspring scratched has best
recent speed. Failed when a heavily supported favourite
last start when ridden from barriers to hold a forward
position. Only battled on in straight & race was set up
for the swoopers. Drawn out & would expect that they
will be a lot more patient this time (lots of on speed
horses engaged so pace should be generous). Comes in very
well at the weights meeting Barwon Express 5kg’s better for
defeating him at Hillside. Barwon Express
has 2nd best recent speed & continues to improve and
impress. First try at this distance but should be able to
sit just off speed & should look winner at some stage.
Big danger. This should be a race of good speed & may
also suit Saratime who is looking for this
extra trip. Would certainly try and find a way of including
him into betting considerations in this.
Race 7: Mistake Creek has best recent
speed & is in great speedform. Handled very heavy track
well last start but better suited on firmer ground. After
the 2kg claim she is well weighted against mares &
looks hard to beat again. Lots Of Thanks
looms as best value horse of the day. Second best recent
speed (from a MV win) & no luck 2 starts back at this
track & trip. Comes in well at the weights after a 3kg
claim and from barrier one she should get a soft run in
transit. If she gets the breaks in the straight she can
challenge.

D. Oliver up. Carries a bit of weight, but the minimum is
also quite high & the weights compressed between the
better chances. If she is to be beaten it looks like
Ladies Dancing will be the one to do so. A
race with low speed values which would often mean not a
betting race, but Fontajeune does appear well placed.
Race 3: Swirly Dream
scr has best recent
speed & flew last time until caught late by two
promising fillies. If you go back to her runs against
Volcada & Monicablinco her credentials look very good.
Good barrier on this tricky track & D. Oliver up. Quite
a few fillies that could improve considerably this
preparation, but she looks to have them covered on speed
form disclosed to date.
Race 5: Manihi Lad has best recent speed
(best last start for this meeting) & his recent speed
efforts indicate a lot more improvement to come. Handles
Lakeside & should take a lot of beating.
Yappa has 2nd best recent speed & was
impressing before being heavily backed last start but a bit
disappointing (blinkers back on for this). A good draw and
he is the danger.
Race 6: Cape Danger has best recent speed
for this from behind Barwon Express & Cognac Bay. 5
wins & 4 seconds from 14 starts on good tracks & he
is fit and a winner at 1600m. Looks the one to beat.
World Ruler has best speed profile. This
was set when 2nd here behind Dracs Back with Polish Clown
3rd. Yet to win on a good track (good on dead tracks) but
obviously loves this circuit. Would look at him as a saver
bet as he could produce an upset.
Race 7: Not A Copy has very strong
speedfigures (best for this race) and created in good
races. Failed at Cranbourne last start but ridden quietly
over a longer trip and it was not a taxing run. Finally
draws a good barrier in town (last time he did he beat
Jungle Ruler home at Flemington) and he should get up on
the speed in this & take beating. Cognac
Bay has 2nd best recent speed. Carries 58kg &
a wide barrier. Can still win & definitely a strong
place chance. If Danzylum or Ryobiton get out to good odds
I would consider placing a win bet on either. But for
value, and on the strength of positive speedfigures,
Not A Copy looks to be the main bet.
Race 8: Hard to separate both Evil
Tricks & Hurl in this. Top 2
recent speed & good cases can be made for either.
Hurl does read well from splitting Miss
Gundowring & Sensational Toy two starts back. Would be
surprised if neither of them is in the finish.

chances have drawn very wide. This could be his race.
Escadaire has best recent speed & will push forward
from his wide barrier & sit just off Jungle Ruler. Puts
himself in a winning position & should be in the
finish. Same story for Jungle Ruler who is ultra consistent
