The pre-race summary read: Dream Leica may be the surprise with a significant speed return of 206 last start over 1000m & will be further improved by extra trip. Dream Leica had the best speed profile & best recent speed performance: Best recent speed performance: Dream Leica 206...Worth noting that not a single tipster from The Melb Age or the Winning Post tipped her to run a place. Best recent speed another sensational effort with 4 winners having either best or 2nd best recent speed performances including Oakleigh Plate winner River Dove @ $11.80; $3.20 & Blessum @ $5.90; $2.20 (both had best speed). Best speed for day was successful with heavily supported Sensational Spot @ $5.30 (in from over $8.00). Speedfigures got the Guineas right, even if I did not interpret figures to maximum benefit (pretty obvious when you look at it in hindsight).

8/2/2003: Great performance by speedform with 2 of the 3 'best speed for meeting' horses successful: Feel The Noise @ $5.40 & Titanic Jack @ $3.20. 5 winners were in top 2 best recent speed performances: Greek Adonis $5.40; Halibery @ $2.80; Titanic Jack $3.20; Yell $5.20 & Brief Embrace $7.20. 1/2/2003: 3 top rated winners with feature race (Debonair) winner Innovation Girl identified as having her rivals covered after her brilliant last start speed performance. Also noting that 3rd placegetter Tycoon Ruler ($109.00) & 15.80 for place was identified with 3rd best recent speed for race & selected as a great place prospect. Top 5 last start speed performances listed Super Elegant $7.70; Dantana $4.30; Sir Chuckle (3rd-ntd); Azevedo 2nd $2.90 & Samdin unplaced.

4/1/2003: Another great effort by speedform with 4 winners & 1 2nd from the 'Top 5 last start speed performers'. The 2nd (My Fraarlein) was behind Raven's Pal (speed best for meeting) @ $4.60 & the exacta paid $12.10. Best recent speed produced 5 winners across the program.

26/12/2002: Great performance by speedform with Raja Lane winning @ $8.50; $2.90 being one of 2 recommended speed horses for day. In addition (the only other race commented upon) Appian Way was top rated winner @ $7.60. 1st or 2nd rated speed horses produced winners @ $7.50; $7.60; $8.50 & $3.20. Speed data identified winners with best recent speed: Appian Way, Raja Lane & trifecta in race 6 @ $1238.40. 2nd best recent speed winners included Easy Virtue @ $7.50; Mooball @ $3.20 & You Little Beaut @ $10.90. Doubles totalled $455.70. Exactas $411.10 & trifectas $1776.50. Once again consistency & great value.

21/12/2002: Strong effort by speedform with 'top 5 last start speed performances' contributing these great results: Be My Person 1st @ $9.30; Sparkling Gulch 2nd (same event) $2.00 (exacta $51.50); Step Ahead 1st @ $5.80 & Flurry's Gem 1st @ $3.50. Flurry's Gem ($3.50) was identified as 1 of 2 best speed chances for meeting & there were 2 top rated winners from 7 races with Flurry's Gem & Step Ahead @ $5.80. 2 trifectas were rated in top 3 speed selections: race 4 @ $202.10 & race 8 @ $114.80.

30/11/2002: Good performance by speedform with 3 top rated winners from 7 rated races including Raja Lane @ $6.00 (also recommended speed best for meeting); Cooke Street @ $6.80 & Gazania @ $2.40. Best recent speed performers (top 2) also successful with Gazania; Raja Lane; Cooke Street & Fearless Sophie: 4 winners from 7 races had either best or 2nd best recent speed performances. Quaddie $1327.40 & doubles $248.40.

8/11/2002: Brilliant effort by speedform to identify Scenic Peak in feature race as best speed horse for the day. Speedfigures were spot on & he firmed from over $18.00 into $14.40; $4.70. Sure Bet @ $23.90 & British Buska @ $7.30 both had best recent speed performances in their respective races. Trifectas totalled $2099.90. Exactas $342.20. Doubles totalled $466.30 & quaddie $2741.00. Once again during Spring carnival speedratings has as top rated the winners of Cox Plate; Caulfield Cup; VRC Derby & Emirates Stakes plus numerous other major race winners. If you check past years you will find similar results with likes of Sudurka winning Salinger Stakes last year @ $29.90; Cox Plate winner (again), Waterford Crystal Mile @ $10.10 and so on. Go back another year & it is Sandown Classic winner Brave Chief @ $20.70, etc. Speedfigures are an accurate way to interpret the true ability of the horse. I will interpret the figures & advise (from my wealth of experience) the better speed chances (usually at great value) while disclosing the speed performances as a true 'form guide' for the savvy punter to make their own judgement call.

5/11/2002: Always the hardest day of the punting year & a few results again to confirm this theory. Still the Melbourne Cup winner Media Puzzle did have the best recent speed performance & duly won-even if I somehow found a way of overlooking a glaring fact. Strong performance by speedfigures with Inspire (best speed) winning @ $26.60; $6.80; Hey Pronto (best speed & best recent speed) 1st @ $4.20; $1.90; Tarcoola Diamond (best speed & best recent speed) 1st @ $6.10; $2.20 & Roman Arch (2nd best recent speed) 1st @ $17.10; $5.60. Daily Double $123.70. Quaddie a huge$24,645.70 if you concentrate on best recent speed performances (1/1/5/2). Speedfigures are always an essential tool when ascertaining the chances in any race.

26/10/2002: Strong effort by speedform with 2 winners from 'best speed for meeting' with Royal Code @ $4.50 & Northerly @ $3.70. Rain Gauge 2nd $1.70 was very unlucky not to win. Scenic Peak & Let's Went (both at good odds) had no luck in running. Once again the major races were won by speed horses with strong credentials: Cox Plate by Northerly (best speed) Schweppes S by Spinning Hill (best speed); Grosby Gold Cup by Thong Classic (2nd best speed-with runner up Rain Gauge having best speed); Waterford Crystal Mile won by Royal Code with Weasel Will 2nd (they being 3rd & 2nd best speed) & the AAMI Vase by Helenus (best speed). Trifecta of $443.40 in Grosby Gold Cup was won by top 3 'speed best' horses with 3rd placed Mr. Prudent paying $9.40 for place. Quaddie $645.00. Good races are won by the best horses & speedratings is the logical & best way to categorise a racehorse. Go Northerly!

19/10/2002: Strong performance by speedform on a premier raceday. From horses categorised as speed best for meeting there was Tarcoola Diamond 3rd $1.30; Mr. Lofty 1st $3.70; $1.70; Northerly 1st $4.20; $2.00 & Taimana 3rd ($12.90) $4.10. Also today highlighted another key facet of speedratings: it is an alternative form guide. I analyse the speed data & make recommendations. But secondly I supply clients with the means to make their own assumptions. Today Reactive 1st @ $60.00; $16.40 went into her event with the 3rd best recent speed performance & having best speed performance at Caulfield. Trifecta in same race paid $6625.30 with the top 5 best recent speed performers filling placings. In fact, the top 5 filled first 5 placings: Best recent speed performance: Wyndam Special 190,120,108; Taimana 164; Reactive 160; Hosannah 160; Lady Cay 153,179 scratched; Gentle Genius 145...

29/9/2002: Brilliant performance by speedform with both of speed best for meeting horses winning Jugahnaut @ $12.60 & Tarcoola Midnight @ $9.50. The daily double with these 2 paid $152.40 & the quaddie paid $11,683.70. Antique @ $6.50 another top rated winner. Trifectas $2699,80. Doubles $707.50. 3 top rated winners from 7 rated races at very generous odds. Valuable information in every event.

28/9/2002: Another very good performance by speedform with 3 top rated winners successful (from 7 rated races) with Primevall @ $13.00; Koala @ $3.20 & Edgeton @ $3.20. Best recent speed performance winners were Primevall & Edgeton with The Almighty One having 2nd best recent speed & paying $10.50. In race 6 horses with speed best (best speed performance past 24 months) ran trifecta & paid $1201.50.

22/9/02: Very good effort by speedform to produce Taimana as big winner & identified as best speed horse for meeting. Taimana paid $13.70 but was backed in from $28.00 & was still showing $25.00 well into betting. (Speed best for meeting: Taimana (race 2) quality mare with more potential than performance to date although she still possesses a 50% win ratio. She is unbeaten first up & stable (Mike Moroney) are masters at producing horses fresh. Took on Group 1 gallopers after brilliant speed return on Australian debut in Autumn & just appeared to be a filly not physically prepared at that stage. Would expect that she has come back stronger & she appeals as a good prospect.) Another of the best speed horses Titanic Jack was narrowly beaten @ ($5.50) $2.10 for place. Other good results include top rated Northerly @ $2.50 plus Sophistocat 2nd (2nd best speed for race) @ $5.20; Toast Of The Coast (also narrowly beaten had 2nd best recent speed in her race) @ $25.80; $6.10. Pentastic 1st @ $11.10 was identified as a great chance. Exacta in race 3 paid $325.40.

14/9/2002: Strong results from speedform with 3 winners (from 7 races) having best recent speed performance for their respective races: Dandy Kid @ $16.70; Fields Of Omagh @ $3.20 & Yell @ $2.10. Trifectas totalled $1134.40 (add an extra $191.40 if including top 4 last recent speed in race 4). Doubles totalled $424.60. Exactas $287.00. Quaddie $811.00. Speed data vital in all races identifying poor value (& poor performing) favourites in Bella Vichy; Schumpeter (heavily backed Super Groove) & Bidaily. None of these had sufficient speed merit to back the enthusiastic support they received.

3/8/2002: Great performance by speedform with 5 winners from 7 races coming from top 3 speed horses with returns of: $27.80; $6.50; $6.50; $3.60 & $1.40. Two of these winners were top rated & these paid (Choreograph $3.80) & (C
