1 Bankers Lamp
2 Listen Here
3 Lady Phoebe
4 Captanadi
5 Savquaw
Bankers Lamp has 2nd best speed profile & best speed
performance on a wet track. Meets Listen Here very well at
the weights from last start meeting. A wet track suits and
can prove hard to beat at good odds. Listen Here has best
recent speed performance when winning at Caulfield 2 starts
back. Not disgraced down straight track at Flemington last
start when she drew the wrong side of track. This looks
more suitable. Big danger. Lady Phoebe has 3rd best recent
speed & does like soft tracks. Chances to Captanadi

impressed at past 2 starts. Distance seems ideal and not
badly weighted (on 56kg) after the claim. Loves soft tracks
& hard to beat. Tremezzo has 2nd best recent speed from
promising effort last start at Flemington. Still improving
and she is the danger. Senorita De Lago has 3rd best recent
speed after her best speed performance for ages when 3rd
behind Illinois Girl (Tremezzo 2nd) last start. Respect.

ground at the Lakeside circuit last week but Hillside will
enable horses to run home. Very hard to beat. Cocinero has
best recent speed performance. Having only his 2nd attempt
at a distance beyond 1200m but he consistently performs
well in strong sprints. Danger. Escadaire has 3rd best

5 Like It Is / Cancanelle
Growl returned to Australia with a moderate performance in
a very strong speed event at MV (Sonic Quest defeating
subsequent group 1 winner Tears I Cry 3rd while Flash Trick
was 5th). That race has been a strong speed formguide and
he will have derived a lot of benefit. Best speed profile
& good chance to surprise at odds. Flash Trick has 3rd
best recent speed & was very impressive winning at
Flemington on Cup Day. Very good at trip & loves wet
ground. Big danger. Shinzig has best recent speed after
huge effort in group 1 Emirates at Flemington. Has failed
both attempts beyond 1600m but his speedfigures require him
to be given a lot of respect. Sentire is in peak speedform
& was very impressive winning Ballarat Cup on
Wednesday. If he goes around again (and especially if track
is soft) he will be prominent. Chances to Like It Is &
Cancanelle.

profile. Loves dead tracks. Ridden closer than ever
previously last start & still proved strong at finish.
Might be a bit more patently ridden this time. Hard to
beat. Sensational Toy has best recent speed & has had a
great campaign. Just caught at MV before performing well in
good speed race at Flem when 4th. Big danger. Laura’s Charm
has best speed profile & is the class mare in this. If
anywhere near her best she will take a ton of beating.
Chances to Imposing Way & Safari Sunbeam.

5 Bella Cassani / Spelling
Vicarage Gate has best recent speed after an unlucky but
close up effort behind Eskaw when resuming. Goes well at
the Sandown circuit & handles all track conditions.
Hard to beat. Mr Baritone has best speed profile on a wet
track & this would suit if conditions remain wet. This
is much easier than group 1 race of last start. Big danger.
Okay Oky is young horse with potential. Respect. Chances to
Fire Hazard (2nd best recent speed), Bella Cassani &
Spelling.

Speed stable:
Satin Robes (race 4) loves this track & trip
& is very good on the expected dead ground. We weighted
after claim. Hard to beat.
scratched
Stickpin (race 5) is the quality
performer & can be excused for not making ground last
start on the very biased Lakeside circuit. Unbeaten this
track & distance and will handle dead going. Can bounce
right back in this.
Speed value:
Growl (race 6) not disgraced in good speed event
when resuming. Before he went to Hong Kong he was placed
2nd behind Desert War in the 2006 Mackinnon Stakes, beating
home Aqua D’Amore (3rd) & El Segundo (4th).
Speedfigures first up were okay and he does have the scope
for dramatic improvement. Anywhere near his best he will go
very close to winning.
Vicarage Gate (race 8) no luck when
resuming in a good speed race at Caulfield and then
improved 2nd up at MV over same distance. Goes well around
this circuit & appears well placed.

Has been a bit hit & miss this campaign, but no
doubting that he can win if things go his way. Might find
this in-between distance of 1300m to his liking. Hard to
beat. Escadaire has 2nd best recent speed from good first
up run. Failed 2nd up but did not enjoy the best run in
transit. Can bounce back in this. Danger. Solar Secret
pulled up distressed last start after performing very well
his previous start. Drawn a good barrier & he could
spring a big surprise as he has been very competitive at a
higher level. Watch closely. Chances to Dismissal, Jerrymac

Blue Monday has 2nd best recent speed performance but is
well suited by the wfa scale in this race. Didn’t get the
3200m of the Melbourne Cup last start but this race looks
ideal if he has taken no harm from the run. The Fuzz has
best recent speed & he is a young horse who has
improved into the upper levels of our staying horses this
campaign. Big danger. Zipping is a quality galloper who
performed bravely again in the Melbourne Cup. Will be right
in the finish again. Extend has 3rd best recent speed &
has impressed through this campaign. Will be even better
next year, but still must be respected in this. Good

Masked Assassin created a speed peak last start with a
strong effort behind Weekend Hussler. He excels once he
gets to this distance & he is the one to beat. Zacroona
has 2nd best recent speed & is a Zabeel gelding who has
really come good in recent starts. Danger. Belcentra has
3rd best recent speed & is an impressive filly. Barrier

and has been improved greatly by racing. Reaches a peak
after a few runs & weight & barrier see him well
placed. Very hard to beat. Great Is Great has best recent
speed & speed profile. Huge run when resuming &
only needs to have taken no harm from the run to be a huge
danger. Snort has a strong speed profile & didn’t have
the best of luck when resuming. With no weight & inside
draw he will be ridden for luck & hope to charge home
late. Can cause an upset. Good chances to Count To Zero
(2nd best recent speed) & Royal Ida.

with strong prospects, as are Miss Fantabulous & Juste
Momente.
speed class: 106
Top 3 last start speed performances:
The Fuzz (race 6)
Guild (race 9)
Spectacular Saint (race 5)
Speed stable:
Let Go Thommo (race 5) quality sprinter who has
all the speed credentials & is best suited by the wfa
conditions of this race.
Masked Assassin (race 7) created a new speed peak
last start over 1200m & he has always produced his best
performances over 1600m. Going well & this
suits.
Stickpin (race 8) has a very strong speed profile
& the benefit of racing to bring him to a peak. Barrier
& weight are positives & he is ready to produce his
best again.
Speed value:
Anna’s Choice (race 4) has the best speed
credentials and a few gear changes (blinkers off, winkers
on) for this. Finds the 1200m in good company too short,
and the 1400m too far. Might be suited to this in-between
1300m trip. Weakest race he has contested for a good time
& will be good odds considering his
speedfigures.
Blue Monday (race 6) very good performer at wfa
and the high weight scales in Europe. Just didn’t get the
trip in the Melbourne Cup & if he is well this should
suit.
Guild (race 9) won as she pleased last
start in that strange ‘greys’ race held at the Spring
carnival. Opposition were mixed, but speedfigures and the
way she won were very good. Always promised to be a good
horse and the extra distance suits.

impressive last start. Small field suits as he has a
withering finishing burst. Can cause an upset. Gold Edition
& Miss Andretti are both champion mares with little
between them Miss Andretti has a margin over Gold Edition

distance & Miss Andretti has proved better around a

necessary (caught wide) he is capable of breaking them
apart with mid race sectionals as he did in the Caulfield
Guineas. The one to beat. Sonic Quest has 2nd best recent
speed & now emerges as a miler of the highest quality.
He is the danger. Wonderful World is a high class performer
racing at his peak. He must be respected. Niconero has 3rd

Underrated & hard to beat. Emerald Jack like Desert
Master has resurrected his career this campaign. Absolutely
flying & he has been very good out to 2400m before. In
career best speedform & a big danger. Zavite has best

Top 3 last start speed performances:
Sonic Quest (race 6)
Weekend Hussler (race 6)
Desert Master (race 8)
Speed stable:
Extend (race 3) At his best at 2000m and meets
Baughurst much better for his defeat in the Werribee Cup.
Puts himself into a winning position and quickens when the
pressure goes on. Looks well placed.
Weekend Hussler (race 6) continues to display
speedfigures and characteristics of a champion. His hardest
test against the older horses but appears to be
exceptional.
Brom Felinity (race 7) has performed very well
against the very best and 2000m is her best distance. Will
prove very hard to beat.
Desert Master (race 8) was renowned as a wet track
horse but has surpassed those speedfigures this campaign.
Relishing racing off the speed at his own tempo and is very
strong at the finish. At his speed peak & hard to
beat.
Speed value:
Swick (race 5) takes on the champion mares in a
small field. Can run home with exceptional sectionals &
will not have as much traffic ahead of him as usual in this
small field. Can upset the favourites.
Amyjaye Power (race 9) has all
the speed credentials and the inside draw will allow him to
have a soft run in transit.

1 Master O’Reilly
2 Blue Monday
3 Douro Valley
4 Purple Moon
5 Zipping / Efficient
Master O’Reilly set brilliant speedfigures to effortlessly
win the Caulfield Cup. Always appeared that he was waiting
for a Flemington 3200m trip and the soft track enhances his
prospects. The one to beat. Blue Monday might be the one
from the Caulfield Cup beaten brigade that finds
improvement. A European horse with a quality record in
group races, and one that appears to improve through a
campaign (in the style of Australian racing). Has very
strong European form on soft ground and he can prove a
major danger. Douro Valley also comes through the great
speed form of the Caulfield Cup. No weight and a liking for
soft tracks and James Winks is riding brilliantly. He
should be there in the finish. Purple Moon performed
brilliantly in the Caulfield Cup and should have been
placed. He was going to be the danger before the rain came.
He has no real performances of note on soft tracks. If the
track does dry out then he must be elevated in status.
Zipping is proven at this distance and has impressed in
unsuitable wfa races this campaign. Handles wet tracks
& he must be in consideration. Efficient is the enigma.
He looked capable of being the best staying horse in the
country this time last year, but in two subsequent
campaigns has failed to place. His run for 4th at MV behind
El Segundo was full of promise, but he subsequently failed.
Has the ability if he tries.
With Tungsten Strike and Mahler engaged the pace should be
genuine. Both visitors have strong credentials, but my
preference is for horses to have one start prior to the
Melbourne Cup. Maybe Better does not appear to be going as
well as last year, but was impressive at his only try at
track & distance. Neither does Tawqeet or Blutigeroo
present in the same speedform that saw them achieve peak
speedfigures.
Princess Coup has performed very well with strong
speedfigures, but I suspect she may be one campaign away
from being seasoned enough for this. But certainly an in
form chance with strong speedfigures. Similarly The Fuzz,
who is going well but may have been rushed to reach this
level. At least those two have strong speed
recommendations. Definite trifecta options.

strong speed race last start. Seldom gets the breaks in
running, but lots of ability and a danger. Terango has best
speed profile & not far from Tesbury Jack last start in
a brilliant speed event. No starts down the Flem straight
track but does love the 1000m straight track at Victoria
Park in South Australia. Ran an impressive 2nd to Here De

Top 3 last start speed performances:
Master O’Reilly (race 7)
Blue Monday (race 7)
Purple Moon (race 7)
speed stable:
Master O’Reilly (Melbourne Cup race 7) the
Caulfield Cup has provided the peak speedfigures this year,
as it did last year when we isolated Delta Blues as the
best prospect for the Melbourne Cup. I have been looking
for the horse (overseas or local) likely to make
improvement from that race into this. But the more I look,
the more I return to Master O’Reilly. Now that the rain has
softened Flemington it suits him even more. Definitely the
one to beat.
Flash trick (race 8) has the best recent speed
performance for this race & was very strong at his only
other try at this distance. Probably looking for this trip,
a wet track, and change of tempo. Should prove hard to
beat.
Escadaire (race 10) has run some terrific races
2nd up in the past and his first up run is indicative of
him reaching a peak this campaign. Gets through wet ground
okay and from ideal gate he will take beating.
speed value:
Blue Monday (Melbourne Cup race 7) has strong
credentials on his European performances and his 4th in the
Caulfield Cup was full of merit. Improves through a
campaign and loves wet tracks. Comes to this as a sharp
middle distance European horse and not a dour stayer. His
speedfigures suggest that he is rising to a peak. Looks a
great value bet.
Snort (race 9) very talented 4yo who has never
missed a place first up. Should’ve won the Group 3 Danehill
Stakes this track and trip (and on wet ground) as a 3yo.
Usually competes against the best & has always been
underrated. Straight track racing for come from behind
gallopers if fraught with danger, but just hoping he can
secure a path like Swick did on Saturday.
Results:
Although a fantastic day with top rated Flash Trick winning
@ $16.60 I have more than a tinge of disappointment with
Efficient winning. In my speed reviews to clients I have
always rated him as the best horse racing (when stringing
wins together last campaign). Speedfigures suggested (and I
agreed) that he would win the Cox Plate. When doing the
speedratings for this meeting with the rain tumbling down I
lost some faith in him (as too did his regular jockey Steve
Arnold) after a moderate Cox Plate effort. But fate is a
strange thing and the weather cleared, the track dried out,
and Efficient returned to his best. I would love to have
selected him today as I had on all prior occasions. Still,
many clients have been supporting him in advance of the cup
on my recommendation (in speed reviews).

Speed best:
Weekend Hussler (race 5) Outstanding racehorse who
produces brilliant speedfigures each time he races.
Haradasun (race 6) has had little luck
this campaign (culminating in having to lead in Cox Plate
last start). Ideal barrier & is one of a few engaged
not looking to tune up for the Melbourne Cup. The one to
beat.
Bellini Rose (race 8) has second best recent
speedfigures, but is improving through her campaign &
should peak for this race. Drawn very well & will prove
hard to beat.
speed value:
Desert Master (race 3) best speedfigures for ages
last start & ran home powerfully. Should get a nice
smother from inside draw & he can finish this race off
strongly.
Riva San (race 4) No luck in her last 2
starts after defeating Serious Speed in Adelaide. Outside
barrier makes it difficult, but also likely to see her well
over the odds. With any luck she will take beating.
Brolago (race 8) was going very well when
squeezed out of race last start. Scratched from Werribee
Cup midweek. She has the stamina & turn of foot to at
the very least be a strong place chance.
Solar Secret (race 10) ran home strongly
last start and will be further improved by the run. Very
good in Queensland during the Winter & ideally drawn to
get a good run in transit. As long as track is no worse
than dead he can surprise with a big run.
